book agents that work for you

We do things differently. Yes, we represent authors, help manage their careers, and secure book deals with publishers. But we also empower our agents to be 100% invested in their clients. This results in agents who are loyal to their authors more than the agency they’re with.

Here’s what we mean by that. Most literary agencies take money from their agents (up to 50% of earnings!) and have legal control over contracts and the agent’s client list.

At MG&L, our agents receive all of their earnings, and they have full control over the business they do now and forever. We believe this empowers our agents to build their businesses, serve authors better, and make a living in this tough industry.

about us

Founded in 2006 by industry veteran Chip MacGregor, MacGregor & Luedeke quickly established ourselves as an agency that cares about writers and their careers more than in chasing one-off book deals. We strive to be there for our clients whether or not there’s money to be made. We also care about the editors and publishers we do business with. Our goal isn’t just a great book deal—it’s a long-term author-publisher relationship. This is a mission that has shaped our reputation.

In an ever-changing industry, you need an agent who can secure a great deal and help you think big picture about your career.

On our client lists you will find celebrities, athletes, speakers, artists, award-winners, and at-home parents. You will find influencers with important things to say and lesser-known writers with experiences and worlds to share. Each of them, working with us to build a career one step at a time.

Our guiding principles

  • We assist authors in developing great ideas, expressing them through great writing, and supporting them with a great platform.

  • We encourage authors to think strategically about their books as well as their careers.

  • We value long-term friendships with authors, editors, and publishers.

  • We strive to remain in-step with the changing rhythms of the publishing industry.

  • We long to see lives transformed through the artistry and craft of our authors.

  • We embrace and see the value in self-publishing, indie publishing, and making your own way in this ever-changing industry.

submission guidelines

  • Research our agents to determine who is doing business in your genre of choice.

  • If that agent is open to submissions (you can find this on their bio page), reach out to them via their channel of choice (email, query tracker, etc)

  • If sending an email, please include your query letter and full book proposal. There are many resources online to help you with these requirements.

  • If submitting a fiction novel, please include the full manuscript.
